Privacy policy
Effective October 20, 2026.
Historic Coast Dispatch is published by Vik Media Group, Miramar, Florida. This page explains what information we collect when you use this site and what we do with it.
What we collect
- Usage data. We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. It uses cookies and collects information such as pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser. It does not tell us who you are.
- Technical data. Our hosting provider and Cloudflare, which protects and speeds up the site, process your IP address and keep short-term logs for security.
- What you send us. If you email us or use a form on the site (for example, “Report an error”), we keep your message and the contact details you include so we can answer.
- Newsletter. If you sign up at /newsletter/, we keep your email address, whether you live here or are visiting, the places and topics you picked, how often you want to hear from us and, for trip guides, your travel dates. We use them only to send the emails you asked for. Trip dates are deleted the day after your trip ends. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to delete your data at any time.
- Contributor applications. If you apply to write for us through /contribute/, we keep the name, email, town, short bio and links you send, and use them only to review your application. Declined applications are deleted after 12 months.
Advertising
Historic Coast Dispatch is supported by advertising. We use Google AdSense, a service provided by Google LLC, to show ads on our pages, including news alerts.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info.
- To learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Ad vendors and ad networks may also collect information such as your IP address, browser type and device identifiers to deliver, measure and limit the frequency of ads. We do not sell your name, email address or other information that identifies you directly.
Your choices and consent
Depending on where you live, you may see a consent message managed through Google’s consent management platform. You can change your choices at any time through the “Privacy and cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page. Residents of U.S. states with privacy laws (such as California) may opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for targeted advertising through that same link.
Advertising and our newsroom
Advertisers do not influence our news coverage. Ads are placed automatically and are clearly separated from editorial content. During active emergencies (such as a storm or fire warning) we do not include product or affiliate links in the alert itself.
Links to other sites
Our articles, visitor guides and event listings link to other websites, such as government agencies, venues and ticket sellers. Some links are affiliate links: if you buy through them, we may earn a commission (see How we choose recommendations). Those sites may set their own cookies and have their own privacy policies.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your name, email address or other information that identifies you directly.
- We do not ask for accounts or passwords.
- This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Your choices
You can block or delete cookies in your browser, and you can opt out of Google Analytics with Google’s browser add-on. To ask what we hold about you, or to have it deleted, write to [email protected].
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update this page and its effective date.
